ABOUT CHARLES GOZZARD

I was appointed as a full-time consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth in 2008. My elective practice is devoted entirely to dealing with problems of the hand and wrist. I also work as a general trauma surgeon within the Major Trauma Centre at Derriford Hospital. I have developed a specialist interest in dealing with complex wrist trauma. My private practice is run through the Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital and is entirely devoted to problems of the hand and wrist.
I qualfied from the Royal London Hospital in 1994 and was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998. I undertook specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bristol and completed my training in 2007.
I have developed a sub-specialist interest in hand and wrist surgery. To further my interest and training I worked in an Advanced Training Post in Hand Surgery in Oxford in 2006. Awarded a travelling fellowship by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, I undertook an international Hand Surgery Fellowship in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
As a consultant I have worked to improve both elective and hand surgery services, providing a complex wrist fracture service and well as a tertiary referral Dupuytren's contracture clinic.
I continue to be involved in research, with roles as the Chief Investigator in both local and multi-centre hand surgery trials.
Away from the hospital I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children. I am an active sailor and enjoy participating in or following most sports, when the opportunity arises.
